I imagine all of you reading the title and thinking, "no way," impossible. Well, everything is according to the glass with which we look. Sometimes, a crisis we thought would destroy us is the one that ends up opening new possibilities and propelling us to do things we would have never done if we were in a comfortable situation.

This idea reminds me of an experience that changed how I will face a crisis. In January, my husband started working from home, and I was an educational aid at my daughter's school. We were both making more than we had seen in a while. We were starting to feel at ease with our economics, and we were making plans to save and everything. But unfortunately, that did not last. In a matter of weeks, everything changed. I got sick and was diagnosed with another Pulmonary Embolism. Due to all the missed days and the recovery time my doctor ordered, I had to resign. The situation caused a lot of stress on us, and in the middle of one of the multiple conversations with my husband about what we were going to do, I told him, "I think God is moving us into working in our own business. If everything is moving us into working from home, this is the time to make a bold decision and start using our talents for ourselves instead of for others. I remember these exact words, "If we do not do it now, we will not do it at all. If we do not take advantage of this opportunity, that door will close forever. After deep consideration, we decided to take advantage of the new opportunity, and everything has been working in our favor since then.

Our experience serves as an example that God opens doors even in the middle of a crisis. It is in our hands to have faith and look above the problem or circumstances. There are two choices: we can sink into sadness and remain victims of the whole process, or take advantage of it. I prefer to face the crisis, have faith, and learn from it. How?

  1. We can assume an attitude of an overcomer, using the crisis as a stepping stone to discovering new horizons. When we see things differently, leaving our burdens in God's hands and having peace becomes easier. Of course, this does not mean that you will sit at home waiting for a miracle. No, the key is to move by faith, to act. Do not be overwhelmed by the fear of what you see; look beyond the problem, and be proactive. It means being cautious and taking alternative measures to protect yourself from possible outcomes.

  2. We can reinvent ourselves, use our talents and abilities, and turn those talents into new job opportunities or additional livelihoods. For example, I have always loved baking, and people say I do it well, so I started baking. God gave us these abilities and talents, and we must not put them away; we must use them.

  3. We can overcome our fears and accept new opportunities. Many of us have dreams, and due to a lack of time, we have not been able to achieve them. We have even left many projects halfway through for fear of failure. Sometimes it is because we doubt our potential.

The crisis can be that little push that we need to activate our faith. We can make the most of a difficult time and learn from it. They are experiences that bring me closer to God. Why? Because contrary to many who distance themselves from God when something goes wrong or does not go their way, I stand firm by His side because I am sure that away from Him, I will only find anxiety, desperation, and depression. It is through his love and care that I can be an overcomer. Always be on the lookout when you experience a crisis because, in those times, new opportunities arise.
