You Don't Need a Glass Slipper

“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” C.S. Lewis. This quote answers why we constantly seek why we are here and for what purpose. We continually seek to discover our identity, and in that quest, we sometimes put our value into things that do not deserve it, and we seek identity on things that will never satisfy us. In our search for our true identity, if we are not careful with who we trust, we will eventually give control to the wrong people. This premise reminds me of Cinderella. She was searching for her identity, and in the process, she surrendered all the power over her stepmother, and that only caused problems and heartache. But there is hope because eventually, she finds her identity most unexpectedly, thanks to a glass slipper.

Fortunately, we do not need a glass slipper to discover our true identity; we can find it by following Jesus. While Cinderella learned who she was when she found the glass slipper, we uncover our true identity when we find Christ. We must learn to see ourselves as God sees us to find our true identity in Christ. In Christ, we are:

  1. We are the apple of His eyes.

  2. We are valuable.

  3. We are redeemed.

  4. We are strong.

  5. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.

  6. We are His workmanship, created for good works.

  7. We are a holy nation.

  8. We are the Holy Spirit's temple.

  9. We are overcomers.

  10. We are a new creation.

  11. We are loved.

  12. We are his sons and daughters.

  13. We are forgiven.

  14. We are free!

  15. We are light and the salt of the World.

  16. We are more than conquerors.

  17. And many more.

I could spend a long time listing who we are in Him, but instead of presenting a lengthy list, I want you to experience the blessing of knowing your true identity. Rather than searching for your glass slipper, I challenge you to seek Jesus; He is the only one who can give you true purpose.
