In a world with many shoes…, I am a pair of boots

If I had to describe myself as a shoe, I would be a pair of good, sturdy boots. Why? I can relate to the strength and protective qualities of boots. Boots are shoes that protect your feet, ankles, and sometimes your calves by covering them so they won't get hurt. They are protective shoes, and they are sturdy enough to endure harsh conditions. Boots can overcome bad weather and give support and traction whenever needed. I consider myself a strong woman who has overcome numerous trials that have shaped me into the person I am today. I can say I am a fighter, and surrendering is not in my vocabulary.

I've been fighting since my birth. I was a very premature baby, with only 24 weeks and a weight of 2.0 pounds. Although I seemed fragile, I was born with a strong will, and against all odds, I survived more than the two days the doctors told my mom. A few months later, I had surgery to remove a gangrenous hemangioma on my back. Once again, God was there protecting me. I had a great childhood, full of love and great memories. I am happily married and have two beautiful daughters. Those three are my world; they are my reason to keep going.

In 2015, I had my first Pulmonary Embolism, and I did not imagine that that first encounter would change my life forever. Then in 2017, I had two more, one in 2019, and in 2022, while I was on blood thinners. All those encounters made me more grateful for what I have, and I learned to appreciate the little blessings each day brings. Even though I struggle with the side effects of the blood-thinner and the challenges of other conditions like fibromyalgia, all these experiences have made me more grateful for what I have, and I’ve learned to cherish the small blessings each day offers. I am thankful to be here to enjoy my two beautiful princesses and my husband. Side note: Please, be aware of your body, and understand the symptoms and risk factors for blood clots. Knowledge can mean the difference between life and death. These health struggles have made me stronger. I am grateful to be here because I can enjoy my two beautiful princesses and my husband. I love serving others and fulfilling a purpose. I strongly believe that when you help others, you humble yourself and enrich yourself. Boots are preferred by people when they do hard work or face harsh conditions because they are reliable. Like them, I am a dependable person. I enjoy helping others in any way I can and love feeling useful. Everything I do must have a purpose. I always strive to do things that positively impact others. I believe that God has blessed me every time I survive, and the least I can do is pay it forward and leave a legacy. I'm thankful for what I have, and I'm proud of the woman I've become. I'm far from being perfect; I have many flaws and insecurities. But even in the middle of my messes, I've always overcome every obstacle and kept walking.
